Last Year's Garden

Since I've started this veggie garden blog, I'm going to pull some posts from last year's regular garden blog that really belong here.

Posted July 16, 2007:
Here's your first look at our veggie garden! It's doing great, and we only wish we'd planted more things. This year we planted watermelon, red and white bell peppers, 9 tomato plants (roma, cherry, and beefsteak), basil, green onions, bush beans, pole beans, cucumbers, red and yellow corn, pod and snap peas (they're done for the season already, and we've uprooted them), cilantro, serrano peppers, blueberries, ornamental gourds, birdhouse gourds, strawberries, blackberries, and pumpkins. Next year we hope to lay it out better, flatted it out, and add raised beds built from scrap lumber from neighboring houses.

Crazy pumpkins, with a trellis added to keep them off of the lawn, blackberries (between the pumpkins and the fence) and the strawberries.
Chris's corn is nearing 4' tall! The trellis to the left of the corn holds cukes and beans, and the low patches to the right of the corn are strawberries, with gourds behind them near the black compost bin. In the bottom right corner is the edge of the pumpkins.

The tiny plant on the left near the grass is watermelon. The big bushy guys are tomatoes. Cukes/beans are on the trellis, and peppers, basil, and pole beans are in front of the tomatoes.
Here's a look at the tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, and corn. I need to put in more pole beans to fill up this trellis. The bare patch near the fence was where the peas were until recently.
Tomatoes galore! You can see the white bell peppers in front of the tomatoes, with the basil in front of that and the watermelon to the left.
